CBC & TSC-Aligned Mathematics Roadmap (2027–2028)

Inspired by the Kapitals-Pi Blog & MOE Syllabus, refined through the lens of Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and Teacher Service Commission (TSC) professional expectations.

Year: 2027

Term 1 (Jan–Apr)

CBC Strand: Numbers, Algebra & Geometry Basics
TSC Objective: Foundational Competency in Numbers & Reasoning
  • Use whole numbers and fractions to model real-life situations (Grade 9–10 equivalence)
  • Construct basic geometric figures and apply angle properties
  • Develop financial literacy using ratio and proportion
Key Competencies: Critical thinking, Communication, Self-efficacy
Assessment Mode: Formative observation rubrics, peer assessment, timed exercises

Term 2 (May–Jul)

CBC Strand: Algebraic Processes & Statistics I
TSC Objective: Strengthen analytical tools in expressions, graphs, and interpretation
  • Expand and simplify expressions (binomial, trinomials)
  • Solve linear and quadratic equations (graphical and algebraic methods)
  • Introduce data collection, bar/pie charts, basic mean/median analysis
Key Competencies: Communication, Numeracy, Creativity
Assessment Mode: Practical graph plotting, short quizzes, concept maps

Term 3 (Sep–Nov)

CBC Strand: Measurement, Geometry & Trigonometry I
TSC Objective: Apply geometry and trigonometry in navigation and design
  • Surface area and volume of real-world 3D solids
  • Apply Pythagoras’ Theorem, basic trigonometric ratios
  • Explore angle of elevation/depression in geography links
Key Competencies: Collaboration, Spatial awareness, Digital literacy
Assessment Mode: Group projects, math journaling, diagram critique

Year: 2028

Term 1 (Jan–Apr)

CBC Strand: Advanced Geometry, Statistics II & Algebra Mastery
TSC Objective: Refine logical reasoning through advanced patterning & analysis
  • Circle geometry (chords, cyclic quads, tangents)
  • Compound interest, depreciation, taxation
  • Histograms, cumulative frequency curves
Key Competencies: Critical thinking, Financial literacy, Ethics
Assessment Mode: Inquiry-based tasks, midterm mocks, oral explanations

Term 2 (May–Jul)

CBC Strand: Integration, Transformations & Probability
TSC Objective: Foster mastery of mathematical models and simulations
  • Transformations (rotation, reflection, translation, enlargement)
  • Introduce basic integration & differentiation for STEM learners
  • Probability of combined events using tree diagrams
Key Competencies: Problem solving, Scientific literacy, Communication
Assessment Mode: Investigation portfolios, model presentations, TSC-scheduled evaluations

Term 3 (Sep–Nov)

CBC Strand: KCSE Preparation & Real-World Application
TSC Objective: Evaluate mastery, bridge to tertiary and entrepreneurship
  • Full paper practice under KCSE exam conditions
  • Conceptual review of weak strands
  • Mathematical modeling: agriculture, business, technology
Key Competencies: Resilience, Initiative, Entrepreneurial thinking
Assessment Mode: KCSE mock exams, CBC learner profiles, presentation of portfolios

Suggested Enhancements for Teachers

  • Integrate ICT tools (Desmos, GeoGebra)
  • Design cross-disciplinary problems with Biology, Geography, Business
  • Use local contexts: e.g., area measurement in farming, interest in table banking
