Control drought in Kenya
Drought can be described as a continuous period of dry weather. It is usually found in Semi-arid regions where there is a low mean annual rainfall variability. Also, it can be described as drought as drier than normal conditions. Drought is one of the most damaging environmental phenomena doing enormous damage to humankind. Man has always faced weather and climate Vagaries and problems related to drought. Some of the causes of drought are the lack of water in stores such as rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and aquifers ( water stored underground naturally). Areas that rely on rainfall and surface water are more likely to experience drought. Also, drought can be caused by Deforestation which may lead to less water being stored in the soil the land dies out quicker than it. would if it were covered in vegetation. Also can be caused by low precipitation over an extended period of time. Atmospheric conditions such as climate change, Ocean temperatures, changes in the Jet stream, and changes in the local landscape are all factors that contributed to drought. The duration of the drought in Africa has led to some effects and is, such as Hunger and famine, drought results in too little water to support food crops through either natural precipitation or irrigation using reserve water supplies. Also, it has led to wildfires and an effect on wildlife, animals might die. Another effect is social conflicts and wars, lack of water creates a corresponding lack of food people will compete and eventually fight and kill to secure enough water to survive. Migration and relocation can be one of the effects, many people and course animals will flee drought-stricken areas in search of a new home with a better supply of water and enough food. The government should come out with better solutions on how to control drought for example educating people on how to harvest water and how to store it. Also planting more trees and combating deforestation, which is something that needs to be employed by everyone in the world can result in billions of trees being planted daily. Also stricter government policies with held to reducing drought, this can be used at the local, and national levels, and stringent laws need to be implemented on those who use practices that can cause drought or other environmentally damaging results.
